Churchlands Community Centre Mooted

Plans for a new £1.8m community recent have been mooted at a residents meeting in Coleraine.

At a recent council event, Churchlands residents heard how the Department for Social Development plans to implement its neighbourhood renewal programme.

Churchlands is one of two renewal areas identified in Coleraine.

Marie Louise McClarey, Neighbourhood Renewal Officer at Coleraine Borough Council, said she was encouraged by the turn out and the keen interest shown by local groups.

"This area is privileged to have many community champions who are working tirelessly to improve the quality of life for local people, which is the key objective of neighbourhood renewal," she said.

Ms McClarey said the Churchlands area will benefit from significant investment over the next few years, including a £1.8m community facility which will replace the Coleraine West Centre.

"There is also additional external investment from GroundworkNI who are working in partnership with council and local community organisations to carry out considerable environmental improvements to the area," she added.
