McCausland Calls For Public's Views On Glen Road Development

Social Development Minister Nelson McCausland has launched a public consultation on the future development of the Glen Road area of west Belfast. DSD is seeking the views of local people on the draft Glen Road Development Framework.

Minister McCausland said: "This Development Framework has potential to shape an attractive and sustainable new neighbourhood in the Glen Road area of west Belfast – a place where people can live and work locally but that is well-connected to the rest of the city. A place with high quality design that makes the most of its natural setting and a place that responds to the needs of the local community in terms of new housing, employment and infrastructure."

The Framework highlights opportunities for up to 1000 new homes, including affordable and social housing, a new village centre for local shopping and services and a major new business location adjacent to the Monagh Bypass – all set within a high quality landscape and supported by well-planned local infrastructure.

Encouraging people to participate in the public consultation the Minister said: "The Framework is the product of intensive engagement with statutory agencies, private landowners in the area and the local community over the past year – we think we’ve found the right balance between the range of competing priorities. I particularly encourage the local community to attend our public information event to hear more about the final Framework and to tell us if we have got it right."
