North Belfast Homeless Still Let Out In The Cold On Girdwood

SDLP Junior Housing Spokesperson Cllr Nichola Mallon has said the homeless people of North Belfast will take little comfort from the Girdwood briefing to the Social Development Committee.

The North Belfast Councillor said: "The SDLP went to the DSD Committee today expecting some detail at least, on housing plans for Girdwood.

"What we got in effect, was nothing other than a history lesson, detailing the chronology of events leading up to the Girdwood 'deal'.

"DSD Officials were vague in the extreme when asked for detail on the total number of houses to be built on Girdwood and the timetable for completion.

"The evidence of the housing crisis in North Belfast is there for all to see. Over 2,400 people are on the housing waiting list with over 1,300 in housing stress. The vast majority of those in need are Nationalist.

"Girdwood is a unique site with vast opportunity and potential to help address this housing crisis in North Belfast."
