Dickson Says Executive Funding To Combat Flooding Is No Long Term Solution

Alliance Regional Development spokesperson Stewart Dickson MLA has said that the £10 million of funding for flood alleviation schemes in East Antrim, East Belfast and South Belfast is only a sticking plaster. The schemes were already planned to be carried out in the near future.

Stewart Dickson MLA said: "I do of course welcome any effort to help decrease the potential of serious flooding. I have seen first hand the devastation that flooding can do to homes and businesses and I hope that these schemes will lead to fewer people being flooded in the future.

"But this announcement is just a short term sticking plaster. I would have expected the Regional Development and the Finance Minister to wake up and realise that what the public are crying out for is a long term solution, which is surely about how we fund our water system so we can see serious investment in an outdated network."
