Community Centre Receives Energy Boost From Charity

Children and young people who attend the Walkway Community Centre off the Newtownards Road in East Belfast have received a boost from the Energy for Children Charitable Trust - the Charity set up by Phoenix and the wider natural gas industry with the aim to help local disadvantaged children.

The Centre is an extremely popular community hub looking after and supporting young people from throughout the east of the city.

With unemployment at a record high the Trust was able to provide training aid technology for the Walkway Centre to help further its focus on supporting STEM learning (Science, Technology, Engineering and Maths).

Rachael Davison, Centre Manager, said: "We were able to purchase computer equipment and software that has now helped us to facilitate weekly workshops and creative information technology projects. These invaluable resources will benefit the Centre not only now, but also well into the future".

DUP Councillors Adam Newton and Lord Mayor Gavin Robinson are both long-standing supporters of Walkway. Councillor Newton reflected: "The Mayor and I became aware of the work of Energy for Children last year and we were both very pleased to hear that the local gas industry has been able to help Rachael and the volunteers in this way".

Phoenix covers all administration costs associated with the Charity so that every penny raised goes directly towards helping local disadvantaged children. To date the Energy for Children Charitable Trust has helped over 5,000 local young people.
