Gas Safety Week Launches

Local people and public representatives have this week been supporting national Gas Safety Week from 10th - 16th September.

Gas Safety Week is organised by Gas Safe Register, the organisation that oversees the official list of Gas Safe registered installers and engineers.

Over 170,000 people across Northern Ireland now use natural gas as their main source of fuel as its economic, social and environmental benefits continue to make it an attractive option. Like all fuels, including oil and coal, it must be used correctly and this campaign is aimed at highlighting the different ways to ensure gas safety in the home.

Paul McKee, General Manager of Phoenix Energy Services, said: "Gas Safety Week is in place to raise awareness around a fuel that is very safe when used properly. Poorly installed or maintained appliances could lead to inefficiency or unwanted carbon monoxide emissions and so we would always recommend having an annual safety check completed on all appliances. This of course should always be carried out by a Gas Safe registered engineer. Also we would recommend that householders make use of approved carbon monoxide detectors."
