RTE Actions Branded 'Premature'

The solicitor of Fr Kevin Reynolds has dismissed a move by RTE to scrap the 'Prime Time Investigates' series as "premature".

It was part of a range of measures which RTE announced yesterday in the wake of an investigation the Broadcasting Authority of Ireland (BAI) into the 'Mission to Prey' programme, which libeled Fr Reynolds.

Ed Mulhall, managing director of RTÉ news and current affairs, has retired from the broadcaster and ‘Prime Time Investigates’ editor Ken O’Shea, who is also editor of current affairs, has resigned his position.

RTE said it would not comment on the report until the BAI makes its final decision.
